| artist statement Seeing the whole through the small. What if, by seeing a single leaf, you can understand an entire forest? I have ASD, and this is how I contact the world — through hyperfixation. I work in the field of inclusive and process‑based art. Through my practice and by personal example, I show what neurodivergence is. I’m a birdwatcher, collector of natural artefacts, and read scientific articles and essays about nature. In my work, figures of non‑human animals and plants often appear as images of a logic that is more familiar and understandable to me. People in my practice are silhouette, vaguely, noisy - as a hint at the complexity of social interaction. I work with photography, ceramics, textiles and embroidery. Sensory perception of the medium is important to me as a feature of my hypersensitivity. I always allow the viewer to touch my works in order to share this experience. Through my art, I want not just to tell my story, but to open a dialogue between different people. I strive for visibility and understanding without pity, and for the natural presence of the ‘other’ in art and in the world as a whole. |
